TMEA consists of over 9,000 members, including elementary and secondary teachers from public and private schools within the state, as well as professors and administrators from institutions of higher learning; they represent the very best in music education in the “Lone Star State”. Therefore, The United States Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants were honored by the invitation to perform on the 2009 TMEA President’s Concert, held Thursday, February 12.

Clinician’s Corner – “Arranging: Give It a Try”

Bolling AFB, Washington, DC — I’ve had many musicians tell me, “I wish I could write – but I can’t.” I’m often stunned to hear them say this. They act as though you have to be some kind of genius to write an arrangement for band or orchestra. I’m living proof that such a characterization is not true. While I don’t consider myself to be some kind of genius, I have been doing arrangements on and off since high school (and that was 30 years ago). Experienced arrangers know a lot of stuff, that’s for sure, but one thing is true about experience: you don’t have any until you try it.
