Light Cavalry Overture and other War Horses
The United States Navy Band recorded Light Cavalry Overture in order to pay tribute to eighty years of service to this country. Each track was specifically chosen because it is a fine example of some of the works that have been in the band's repertoire since its inception in 1925. Often referred to as old warhorses, these pieces have been performed countless times over the years and even today are loved by performers and audiences alike. All transcriptions featured on this album date from the first decades of the twentieth century. This period marked the height of the concert bands popularity with the general public. The United States Navy Band plays beautifully on each piece, which, with two exceptions, is associated with opera. Works on the album include Oberon Overture, Poet and Peasant Overture, and The Sorcerers Apprentice. This album is a fantastic representation of the talent, dedication and professionalism that is characteristic of the United States Navy Band in every endeavor.
