Music for Glass Harmonica

$ 16.99

Invented by Benjamin Franklin off of the idea of water filled musical glasses. In Franklin’s treadle-operated version, 37 bowls were mounted horizontally on an iron spindle. The whole spindle turned by means of a foot pedal. The sound was produced by touching the rims of the bowls with moistened fingers. Such a unique instrument was very popular at the time even drawing composers such as Mozart and Beethoven to write pieces specifically for it. Listen to their works on this unique CD and hear what Thomas Jefferson claimed was “the greatest gift offered to the musical world of this century.”
