U.S. Marine Band: William Santelmann
William F. Santelmann USMC (Ret.), was twenty-first leader and director of The "President's Own" United States Marine Band, serving from 1940 to 1955. His musical training began at age six with his father, then-Director of the Marine Band Captain William H. Santelmann. Following the 1940 retirement of Capt. Taylor Branson, he became director of the band, and for the next fifteen years served in that role, a period of time that included the very trying times of WWII.
